A unique duo recently formed by vocalist, Jennifer Hart and pianist

Llew Matthews are regularly performing at a comfortable pub; the Brussels Bistro, on Tuesday evenings, 7:00p to 11:00p in Laguna Beach.  This newly formed duo is a surprise to fans of both musicians, as their vocalizing not only shows their enticing musicality, but that Llew also sings very well besides his engaging and captivating piano playing.  Our visit there took place in late August.

Jennifer Hart has a lot of on-going musical activities and can be found regularly at several of Orange County’s jazz venues throughout each month.  Llew Matthews worked with Nancy Wilson for several years, both as her musical director and pianist, and is now constantly busy playing at numerous venues as well.  Together, these two make quite a memorable sound, thus the title Hart and Soul

Hart’s voice is smooth, clear and definite, plus she does some terrific scatting.  My favorites they performed as a duo were “My Centerpiece,” the Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross composition and “Moonglow” from the classic movie Picnic.   In singular fashion, Jennifer sang “Here’s To Life,” Wes Montgomery’s “Road Song,” and a brilliant arrangement by Matthews of “Besame Mucho” among other well-rounded standards.  Their voice, as one in this outstanding duo, makes quite an identifiable mark within the jazz community.   I am hopeful they will produce a CD from their endeavors.  Check Jennifer Hart’s website: JenniferHart.net
